inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The forest and land fire that occurred in the Way Kambas National Park (TNWK) area in East Lampung Regency was successfully extinguished on Saturday evening (8/22/2026). Around 200 joint personnel were deployed to handle the fire.
Despite facing challenging terrain and strong winds, thanks to the hard work and synergy of the police and all relevant agencies, the fire was extinguished around 7:30 PM.
Lampung Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Helfi Assegaf, attributed the successful fire control to the swift response and cooperation of all parties in the field.
"The fire in the Way Kambas area has been successfully controlled and the hotspots have been extinguished. This is the result of the collaborative work of all personnel and agencies who have worked together in the field since the beginning," said Helfi Assegaf on Sunday (8/23/2026).
After the fire was successfully extinguished, joint personnel did not immediately leave the location. Wetting efforts continued to ensure there were no remaining embers in the undergrowth or dry materials that could potentially ignite a fire again.
"Our focus now is to ensure conditions are completely safe. Therefore, after extinguishing the fire, personnel will continue wetting, combing, and monitoring to prevent the recurrence of hotspots," he said.
In addition to wetting, officers also continue to patrol and monitor the affected area. The police are working together with all relevant agencies to ensure there are no other hotspots with the potential to develop and the fires do not spread again.
Helfi emphasized that cross-agency synergy will continue to be strengthened in addressing potential forest and land fires in the Lampung region.
"Handling forest and land fires requires a swift response and cooperation from all parties. We will continue to strengthen this synergy, both in field handling and preventive measures, so that potential fires can be anticipated immediately," he concluded.
As of Sunday (8/23/2026), joint personnel remained on standby in the Way Kambas National Park area, continuing to conduct wetting, sweeping, patrolling, and monitoring to ensure conditions at the location were completely safe and under control.
