inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, stated that the 2026 World Cup watch parties are not only a form of entertainment for the public but also have a positive impact on regional economic growth.
He appreciated the high public enthusiasm for the 2026 World Cup watch parties, which have now spread across thousands of locations across Indonesia.
"I am very pleased to be invited by TVRI to participate in this joint viewing of the World Cup, Argentina vs. Austria. Our ministry is very grateful to the President for providing entertainment for the public. I am confident that these watch parties will stimulate economic activity across various regions," said Erick on Tuesday (6/23/2026).
According to data obtained from TVRI, the number of group viewings has reached 7,200 locations. This demonstrates high public participation and demonstrates that these activities bring broad benefits.
"Therefore, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has also requested that the Ministry of Home Affairs encourage regional heads to organize public viewing events that support economic growth by involving MSMEs," said Erick.
He said that sports have proven to be a sector capable of driving the economy. Erick cited the high attendance rate at this year's World Cup, which had a significant impact on economic activity in the host regions.
"The World Cup is extraordinary. I saw that stadium attendance reached 96.5 percent. We can see how the economy surrounding sports activities is also growing," said Erick.
Furthermore, he stated that he will continue to explore various collaboration opportunities to expand public access to sports broadcasts on national television.
One effort that will be encouraged is opening up opportunities to broadcast more sporting matches, including national competitions, on TVRI.
