inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Chinese President Xi Jinping is said to have praised President Joko Widodo's peace mission to Ukraine and Russia at the end of last June. Xi expressed his compliment when he met Jokowi at the Diaoyutai state guest building, Beijing on Tuesday (26/7) afternoon. The Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi, said that Xi Jinping appreciated Jokowi's visit to the two warring countries. "This visit is considered by President Xi to show Indonesia's responsibility as a big country," said Retno in an official statement. In addition to appreciating Jokowi's steps, China and Indonesia also discussed a number of things at the meeting. Starting from the issue of ASEAN, the G20, to cooperation in the economic field. Retno said that as the largest economy in Southeast Asia, Indonesia is an important figure for China and the region. Moreover, Indonesia currently became the host of G20 Presidency and next year will become the Chair of ASEAN. "Regarding ASEAN, Indonesia is committed to making ASEAN relevant, not only for the Indonesian people but also for the region and the world," said Retno. Indonesia also expressed their respect for China's support for Indonesia's chairmanship in the G20. In the economic sector, Jokowi and Xi Jinping expressed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two countries. Xi even showed off the intimacy of China-Indonesia relations when welcoming Jokowi's arrival. "President Jokowi is the first Head of State welcomed by the Chinese side after the Beijing Winter Olympics. This is enough to prove how intimate the relationship between the two parties is," Xi said as quoted from the release of the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat. During the meeting, China was also committed to increasing imports of Indonesian agricultural products. The two leaders also discussed the importance of concrete, mutually beneficial cooperation in the Global Development Initiative.
