Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The number of road accidents during this year's Christmas and New Year holidays from December 18 to 25 fell by 39 percent compared to the same period last year, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said on Monday (25/12/2023).
"We have recorded a 39 percent decrease in accidents during this year's Christmas and New Year holidays compared to last year," he said.
Minister Budi Karya noted that ill-prepared tourist buses, especially those operated by unofficial drivers on risky routes, have a high chance of being involved in accidents, with a higher number of casualties per accident.
Sharing the results of his inspection of the transport post, he said that the flow of vehicles through the post remained under control as of Monday. As predicted, he added, the peak of the return flow occurred on 23 and 24 December.
The traffic flow at a number of congested spots such as Merak Port, Ketapang Port, Cipali Toll Road and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport was smoother as observed, Minister Budi Karya said.
However, since traffic density was still noticeable on the Cikupa Toll Road, he urged the police and the toll road operator to continue coordinating to engineer the traffic flow.
The Minister revealed that several tourist destinations have recorded an increase in the number of visitors, advising eople not to insist on visiting such places during peak hours.
