Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy said on Wednesday (18/10/2023) about the potentials of young Papuans to become the driving force of development in Papua.
"There are many intelligent children in Papua who can be empowered by the regional administration," he said during a national seminar etitled "Towards an Advanced Papua" in Jakarta, pointing to young Papuans scholars who have graduated from well-known universities in Indonesia.
The minister said that some of these potential young Papuans have not yet included in the development in Papua.
"They are not given enough space to develop in Papua that they cannot contribute there. We must solve this problem," he said, emphasizing cultural, awareness, and social approaches to overcome development delays in Papua.
Effendy noted that these three approaches were much more effective than the security methods currently being implemented in Papua
"We have to take serious sides with what has been established, including the president's vision while launching the development of Trans-Papua. That must be followed up and finished," he asserted.
Acting Governor of South Papua Apolo Safanpo said that his administration welcomed efforts by the central government to encourage development of the Papua region.
"We need to accelerate development in Papua because there is quite a gap in comparison to that inother regions," Safanpo remarked.
