inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir said that Bali International Hospital (BIH) is a strategic step to meet the need for global-class health services, especially with the high number of foreign tourist visits and the holding of various international-scale events.

According to him, Bali has long been known as a major world tourist destination. However, to maintain its position, the island needs international-standard health facilities that can meet the medical needs of tourists and local communities.

"Every year, around 2 million Indonesians choose to seek medical treatment abroad, with total expenditure reaching 90 trillion rupiah. This figure shows that there is a great opportunity to meet these needs domestically," explained Erick Thohir.

During his visit to BIH, Erick directly reviewed the progress of the construction of the international standard health facilities designed to support health tourism in the Sanur Health Special Economic Zone (KEK), Bali.

BIH not only aims to provide superior medical services, but also to reduce the dependence of Indonesian people who seek treatment abroad.

In addition, BIH plays an important role in attracting diaspora doctors to contribute to strengthening national health resilience.

Currently, the construction of Bali International Hospital has reached 92 percent. The hospital is targeted to start operating in March 2025.

"With its advanced facilities and world-class services on offer, BIH will become an important part of Indonesia's health tourism ecosystem, while also driving the growth of Bali's health and tourism sectors to a higher level," explained the Minister of SOEs.
