Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, announced plans to revise the country's Anti-Corruption Law, which dates back to the Dutch colonial era.
Speaking at the Anti-Corruption Education Center in Jakarta on Tuesday (10/12/2024), he highlighted the outdated nature of the law, which emphasizes punitive measures.
"The spirit of law enforcement under our national Penal Code differs greatly from the colonial approach, which focused on punishment and retribution," the minister said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The revision aims to align the Anti-Corruption Law with modern principles of restorative justice and rehabilitation. It will also incorporate provisions from the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), ratified through Law No. 7 of 2006, with a stronger focus on asset recovery over punitive measures.
"This update is crucial to reflect current needs. We hope to finalize it under President Prabowo Subianto's administration," Minister Yusril said.
