Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar. Two foreign tourists lost their lives, and one was injured when a tree fell at the Monkey Forest in Ubud, Bali, on Tuesday afternoon (10/12/2024).
Gianyar Sub-regional Police identified the victims as Funny Justine Christine (32) from France and Kim Hyoeun (42) from South Korea. The incident occurred at around 12.25 pm local time.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse. The Gianyar Police, local disaster management agency (BPBD), military, and community members have been clearing the site. The Monkey Forest has been temporarily closed during the investigation, according to antaranews.com.
The victims were taken to Kenak Medical Ubud Hospital, while the injured tourist received treatment at the site’s clinic.
Bali Regional Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Superintendent Jansen Avitus Panjaitan, warned residents and visitors to exercise caution due to recent heavy rain and strong winds.
“We urge everyone to avoid outdoor activities during bad weather. Stay safe and remain alert,” he said, highlighting the importance of vigilance amid unpredictable weather conditions.
The Monkey Forest is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from around the world to its lush greenery and playful macaques.
