Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Immigration and Corrections has transferred 241 high-risk inmates to Super Maximum and Maximum Security prisons on Nusakambangan Island, Central Java, this week.
The mass transfer, concluded on Friday, targeted inmates from various facilities in Jakarta and Central Java as part of a strategic "zero-tolerance" crackdown on narcotics and illegal mobile phone use within the prison system.
"Moving high-risk inmates to Nusakambangan is a strategic step to realize a drug-free environment, which is a non-negotiable priority for the Ministry," said Director General of Correctional Services Mashudi on Saturday (7/2/2026), as reported by antaranews.com
The operation involved 220 inmates from Jakarta-based facilities, including Cipinang and Salemba, alongside 21 prisoners from Central Java.
Officials said that the move is rehabilitative rather than purely repressive, aiming to improve security and encourage behavioral changes. The Ministry will evaluate each inmate’s progress after six months to determine if they qualify for a transfer back to lower-security facilities.
