Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia is doubling down on trade and digital payment integration within the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to bolster national economic growth.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said on Saturday (7/2/2026) that APEC members currently absorb 70% of Indonesia’s total exports, making the bloc a critical pillar for the country's strategic trade interests.
“Indonesia needs strong economic growth and with these APEC countries, we can increase our exports,” he said during the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) meeting in Jakarta, as reported by antaranews.com.
The government plans to ramp up shipments of key commodities, including palm oil, metals, and labor-intensive products like textiles and furniture, specifically targeting major markets such as the United States and China.
Beyond physical goods, Indonesia is pushing for wider adoption of the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS). While digital payment links already exist with Japan and South Korea, the administration aims to facilitate seamless cross-border transactions across all APEC economies to simplify regional business activities.
