Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia expressed disappointment over the cancellation of the Fourth Geneva Convention conference on Palestine, scheduled for 7 March 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Saturday (8/3/2025), Indonesia and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) attributed the failure to an imbalanced consultation process before the conference.
The cancellation prevented discussions on Israel’s non-compliance with the Geneva Convention and its illegal occupation of Palestinian territories, as reported by antaranews.com.
The conference, mandated by the UN General Assembly, was intended to address the implementation of the Geneva Convention in occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.
Despite the cancellation, Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Palestine’s struggle for independence and holding Israel accountable under international humanitarian law.
Switzerland, as the Convention’s depositary state, cited fundamental disagreements among signatories as the reason for calling off the conference.
The final declaration draft, submitted on 27 February 2025, failed to gain sufficient support. The OIC stated that the draft did not reflect the gravity of the situation, leading to its rejection.
