Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia is considering two legal and diplomatic pathways to deploy peacekeeping forces to Gaza, Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin said on Friday (14/11/2025).
The government must secure international approval to ensure any deployment proceeds smoothly and in line with global norms.
“The first alternative is under the United Nations,” he said during a briefing at the Ministry of Defense, as quoted by antaranews.com..
Indonesia has long partnered with the United Nations in peacekeeping missions across Africa and Lebanon.
The second option, Minister Sjafrie explained, involves securing authorization through an international coalition initiated by the President of the United States. Such a pathway would require high-level diplomacy among heads of state and broad consensus among key countries involved in the Gaza conflict.
He noted that Indonesia would also need political support from influential Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates as well as Israel.
The minister confirmed that 20,000 personnel, including medical and engineering units, are prepared for rapid deployment pending international approval.
