Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police (INP) organized a training titled "Training to Improve the Capabilities of Investigators and Prosecutors in Election Crimes" at the Krakatau Ballroom in Mercure Hotel, North Jakarta. The event, which took place from May 14 to 18, aimed to equip detectives and investigators with the necessary skills to effectively handle election-related crimes in preparation for the upcoming political year.

The training saw the participation of investigators from general criminal investigation units across all regional police. The opening ceremony was led by Commissioner General Agus Andrianto, the Head of Bareskrim of INP.

Brigadier General Djuhandhani Rahardjo Puro, the General Crimes Investigation Director of Bareskrim of INP, explained that the objective of the training was to enhance the capabilities of the participants in effectively addressing and preventing criminal incidents during the election process

"The event encompassed both in-person and online participation. In-person participants included 245 investigators, with each regional police sending 7 investigators. While the online participation involved all investigators from the Integrated Law Enforcement (Gakkumdu), amounting to a total of 3,380 personnel, including personnel from district police, regional police, and the Bareskrim," he explained.

The training was aligned with Article 478 of Law Number 7 of 2017, which mandated specific training for detectives and investigators responsible for handling election-related crimes.

"During his address, the Head of Bareskrim underscored the significance of elections as a legitimate means for contestants to secure as many votes as possible. However, he acknowledged that violations of the law and actions contrary to regulations persist in reality," he said.

To address these challenges, the Head of Bareskrim stressed the need for clear and unambiguous regulations, coupled with robust law enforcement capabilities, he added. By upholding these principles, the objective of conducting democratic elections and selections can be achieved.

The Head of Bareskrim also drew attention to the agency's previous experience in enforcing election laws during the 2019 and 2020 elections, emphasizing its relevance as a foundation for successfully carrying out the democratic process in 2024.

Nonetheless, the Head of Bareskrim cautioned against underestimating the potential for contestants to employ cunning methods to evade legal consequences, he said. Therefore, the Head of Bareskrim highlighted two key points in his address.

Firstly, the utmost importance of detectives and investigators to uphold the integrity of the law by maintaining neutrality and remaining free from any political interests

"This entails distancing oneself from any political affiliations and demonstrating the intention to treat all groups or factions fairly," he said.

Secondly, with regards to the investigation period for alleged election crimes, there is a strict limitation of 14 days.

"The time constraint for handling these cases should be a collective concern and challenge that can be effectively addressed by enhancing the synergy among the police, the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu), and the Prosecutor's Office, through the collaborative efforts of the Gakkumdu," he concluded.
