Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Central Bureau (NCB) Interpol, under the Indonesian National Police (INP)’s International Relations Division, facilitated the recent repatriation of 569 Indonesian migrant workers who were victims of human trafficking in Myawaddy, Myanmar.
The operation commenced on 15 March 2025, with a six-member team traveling to Bangkok, Thailand, before proceeding to Mae Sot, a border town near Myanmar. From there, they entered Myawaddy, a city controlled by armed groups and notorious for fraudulent operations employing foreign nationals, including Indonesians.
"Myawaddy is within Myanmar’s territory but operates beyond its government’s control," said Brigadier General Untung Widyatmoko, the Secretary of NCB Interpol, on Friday (21/3/2025).
The mission, coordinated with the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok and Thai authorities, secured assistance from the Royal Thai Army for safe repatriation, according to antaranews.com.
The victims were repatriated in two phases and are now housed at Asrama Haji Pondok Gede, Jakarta, for medical and psychological assessment. Following rehabilitation, they will be returned to their respective regions through local administration support or independently.
