Inp.polri.go.id - East Flores. Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized the ongoing efforts to combat online gambling across Indonesia, with arrests and investigations underway in various regions.
“Online gambling must be dealt with firmly,” he said on Monday (18/11/2024) during a visit to the evacuation center for Mount Lewotobi eruption victims in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara.
Chief Sigit outlined current efforts, which include arresting gambling operators and those complicit in online gambling activities, as well as asset tracing to confiscate illicit gains.
Recently, a suspect in Malaysia was arrested and extradited to Indonesia for further investigation.
“This is ongoing, and results will be officially released in due time,” he assured.
The police are collaborating with institutions like the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) and the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to identify and seize perpetrators' assets. Prevention efforts involve partnerships with community leaders, government agencies, and local authorities.
“It requires collective action—prevention, enforcement, and comprehensive measures—if we are to eradicate online gambling,” Chief Sigit added.
Since 2020, the police have uncovered 6,386 online gambling cases, arrested 9,096 suspects, seized Rp 861.8 billion in assets, and blocked 5,991 accounts and 68,108 websites.
