inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The North Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police arrested a person with the initials ASJ on suspicion of misusing subsidized 3 kg LPG. The crime was committed by ASJ at his business premises in the Kelapa Gading area.

"We arrested the perpetrator on Wednesday (5/2/25) and the case is currently under investigation," said the North Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Ahmad Fuady as quoted by Antara on Friday (2/7/2025).

Ahmad explained that the arrest began when officers found a vehicle carrying a number of gas cylinders of various sizes suspected of being misused by mixing subsidized gas into non-subsidized cylinders. Then, the mixed gas was sold to the public.

"The perpetrator took advantage of the situation by injecting subsidized 3 kg LPG gas into 12 kg gas," said Ahmad.

One new 12 kg cylinder and its contents, he said, was sold by the suspect for IDR 550,000. Thus, the perpetrator made a profit of IDR 400 thousand.

From ASJ's business premises, investigators found a number of pieces of evidence in the form of 19 12 kg gas cylinders, 201 empty 12 kg gas cylinders, 82 50 kg cylinders and 70 subsidized 3 kg gas cylinders. Then, 70 seals with barcodes issued by PT Pertamina and one car used to transport the cylinders.

The perpetrator was then charged with Article 55 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 22 of 2001 concerning Oil and Natural Gas amended by Article 40 number 9 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 6 of 2023 concerning the Stipulation of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law Number 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation. Or Article 62 in conjunction with Article 8 paragraph 1 letters b and c of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 8 of 199 concerning Consumer Protection.

"With a maximum prison sentence of six years and a fine of Rp60 billion," he explained.
