inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani emphasized Indonesia's firm commitment to continue supporting Palestinian independence and the humanitarian mission for the people of Gaza when meeting with the leader of the Palestinian Legislative Council Mohammad Moussa Subeih Zeidan and his entourage at the DPR Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/14/2025).

The bilateral meeting was held on the sidelines of the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC (PUIC) in 2025, where DPR acted as the host of the conference.

"Welcome to Jakarta. I hope this meeting will be the right momentum for us to reaffirm the strengthening of bilateral relations between Indonesia and Palestine, including Indonesia's support for Palestinian independence," said Puan in a statement quoted by Antaranews..

She emphasized that the Indonesian constitution has mandated that independence is the right of all nations, therefore colonization in the world, including in Palestine, must be abolished.

"For Indonesia, support for Palestinian independence is not just a foreign policy issue, but part of the mandate of the Indonesian constitution," she said.

She also said that support for Palestinian independence was in line with the spirit of the 1955 Asia Africa Conference in Bandung as a symbol of the anti-colonial struggle.

She said that Indonesia's efforts to support Palestine continue to be voiced, one of which is through parliamentary diplomacy by DPR in international forums, such as PUIC to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

Puan ensured that DPR will continue to monitor the issue of Palestinian independence at the global level and urge the international community to immediately stop the war in the Gaza region, and ensure that humanitarian aid can enter without hindrance.

In addition to the issue of Gaza, Puan also highlighted the importance of improving bilateral relations between Indonesia and Palestine, especially in the fields of economy, human resource development (HRD) and education.

"I also welcome and support the steps of the Indonesian government which is actively channeling aid to Palestine, both through bilateral channels and other humanitarian institutions," she said.
