Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Hasan Nasbi, the Head of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), said on Saturday (10/5/2025) that a university student recently arrested for posting a meme featuring President Prabowo Subianto and former President Joko Widodo should be educated rather than criminally prosecuted.
Speaking at a public discussion in Jakarta, he emphasized that while legal matters should be left to the police, the government prefers a more understanding approach for young people expressing themselves enthusiastically.
“It’s better to guide them,” Hasan said, noting that the student might have been overly spirited in delivering criticism.
He underlined the importance of distinguishing between illegal acts and mere expressions of opinion. If the case revolves around criticism or freedom of expression, he believes it should be met with dialogue and education rather than punishment.
Hasan also clarified that President Prabowo had not filed any complaint regarding the meme and continues to promote unity and inclusivity, as reported by antaranews.com. Nevertheless, he reminded that public expression should be responsible and avoid veering into hate speech or defamation.
