Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. Puncak Jaya Sub-regional Police in Central Papua are investigating the suspected arson of 13 uninhabited homes in Mulia by unidentified persons.

“It i’s true, we’re currently investigating the suspected arson. Thankfully, no casualties occurred since the houses had been vacated due to ongoing conflict between rival political groups,” said  Puncak Jaya Police Chief Superintendent  Ahmad Fauzan oon Sunday (11/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The incident reportedly occurred between Saturday night and early Sunday). The affected houses belonged to residents who fled due to clashes between supporters of two rival candidates for regent and vice-regent.

Police conducted a crime scene investigation  on Sunday and confirmed strong signs of deliberate burning. Security in the area remains stable, but patrols continue ahead of a scheduled traditional peace ceremony on Monday, marked by the symbolic cutting of a log.
