Inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. As many as 15 passengers were killed when a truck owned by PT Empat Res Bersaudara (ERB) plunged into the Segati River in Langgam, Pelalawan Regency, on Saturday.
"Of the 32 passengers, 15 were found dead while 17 survived," said Budi Cahyadi, Head of Pekanbaru's Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), on Monday (24/2/2025).
The vehicle was transporting 32 passengers, including women and children, en route to a local market.
Preliminary reports indicate that the truck struck a metal bridge barrier before plunging into the river, trapping several passengers. The Riau Manpower and Transmigration Agency (Disnakertrans) has launched an investigation into possible regulatory violations.
"If negligence is proven, the company could face sanctions," stated Boby Rachmat, Head of Disnakertrans Riau.
