inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital has emphasized that all online gaming platforms are required to comply with child protection regulations in the digital space through age verification, limiting interaction features, and implementing effective content moderation.

"The government emphasizes that all platforms are obliged to comply with child protection regulations, including strengthening age verification, limiting interaction features, and implementing effective content moderation," said Alexander Sabar, Director General of Digital Space Supervision at the Ministry of Communication and Digital, on Thursday (1/8/2026).

Director General Alexander made this statement in response to the continued access of many minors to online gaming platforms by impersonating their parents. Alexander explained that the ministry continues to communicate with online gaming platforms to address this issue.

Regarding the handling of games with user-generated content (UGC), the govt has established the Indonesian Game Rating System (IGRS) as a standard for age and content classification, as well as an educational tool for the public.

He explained that for UGC-based games, effective child protection requires a combination of the IGRS and platform governance, including active and ongoing content moderation, restrictions on communication features, multi-layered age verification, and strengthened synergy with various parties.

"This is the key to creating a safe gaming ecosystem for children," said Director General Alexander.

He urged parents to actively monitor their children's digital activities, including activating parental control features, ensuring their accounts are age-appropriate, and monitoring the use of social interaction features such as chat and voice.

Alexander also urged parents to educate their children not to share personal data or request or disseminate personal data from others, and not to accept invitations from unknown people to move interactions to channels outside the online gaming platform.
