Inp.polri.go.id - Timika. PT Freeport Indonesia’s emergency response team has recovered all five bodies of miners trapped in the Grasberg Block Cave underground mine in Tembagapura, Central Papua, after a deadly flow of wet material hit the site on September 8.
“All five have been brought to Timika this morning. One will be buried in Kuala Kencana, while four others are being flown to Jakarta today,” said Tembagapura Police Office Chief First Inspector Firman on Monday (6/10/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The victims, the employees of PT Redpath Indonesia, a Freeport contractor, include two expatriates, Victor Manuel Bastida Ballesteros from Chile and Balisang Telile from Africa. The other victims are Holong Gembira Silaban, Dadang Hermanto, and Zaverius Magai.
PT Freeport Indonesia President Director Tony Wenas said the company is providing full support to the victims’ families and assisting with the identification process.
