Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar. Bali Governor Wayan Koster announced on Sunday (7/12/2025)  that the Suwung Regional Landfill (TPA)in Denpasar will be fully closed starting 23 December 2025, prohibiting Denpasar City and Badung Regency from sending waste to the site. 

“TPA Suwung must be completely shut down by 23 December 2025, and no more waste may be transported there,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Governor Koster instructed regional leaders to immediately prepare alternative waste-management systems by optimizing modern facilities, shredding machines, and decomposers to accelerate household-level composting. He reiterated that source-based waste sorting is essential to ensure these methods work effectively.

The governor also urged local administrations to intensify public outreach, establish village-level waste-management models, and coordinate technical procedures with relevant environmental agencies. 

According to Governor Koster, the closure follows findings by the Ministry of Environment that the open-dumping system at Suwung caused serious environmental impacts and violated waste-management laws, resulting in administrative sanctions.

The minister’s decree requires Bali to end open dumping within 180 days, culminating in the December shutdown.
