Inp.polri.go.id - Serang. The Banten Regional Police Chemical, Biological, and Radioactive (CBR) Brimob Unit inspected suspected radioactive waste dumping in rice fields at Nambo Udik Village, Serang Regency, on Friday (4/9/2026).
Fifteen specialized officers wearing hazardous material suits collected 12 environmental samples across three sites to measure potential chemical and radiological contamination.
"Initial detection recorded background radiation at 0.05 microSv/hr, which remains within normal safety limits," said Banten Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Maruli Hutapea. "Initial testing identified Potassium-40 (K-40) in several samples, while others showed no radioactive material."
Air quality assessments measuring oxygen levels and hazardous gases confirmed conditions remain safe for nearby residents. Chief Maruli said that further laboratory analysis is required to identify the exact material characteristics before drawing conclusions regarding radioactive environmental pollution.
