Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. Batam District Court Judge Yudith Wirawan has dismissed the pre-trial motion filed by the Rempang National Defence Team concerning the identification of 30 individuals as suspects by the police in the case of the riot that occurred outside the Batam Development Agency (BP Batam) office on September 11, 2023.
Yudith, the sole judge presiding over the Batam District Court's decision session, explained that the police investigation adhered to proper legal procedures and mechanisms, as reported by antaranews.com. "The petitioner's exception is inadmissible. Rejection of the entire pre-trial investigation," he stated in Batam, Riau Islands, on Monday (6/11/2023). Judge Yudith said that the rejection of the pre-trial application was due to the validity of evidence obtained by the police during the September 11 riots, indicating criminal behavior. Furthermore, the evidence held by the police against the 30 suspects was deemed substantial and convincing, complying with applicable legal provisions. The trial involved three courtrooms, each overseen by a single judge who had handled similar cases and rejected the same petition. Judges Yudith Wirawan, Eddy Sameaputty, and Sapri Tarigan were those rejecting the pre-trial applications. Mangara Sijabat, a member of the Rempang National Defence Team, expressed respect for the court's decision. However, he emphasized their commitment to continuing monitoring the judicial process in the future. The riots stemmed from widespread protests against the Rempang Eco-City development in Rempang Islands, which demanded local residents to relocate to pave the way for the national strategic project.
