Gorontalo – Chief of National Police, Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, visited simultaneous vaccination acceleration across Indonesia. On this occasion, Sigit inspected the activities conducted by Gorontalo Regional Police. "We recently conducted many events in order to accelerate vaccination. Thank God, in Gorontalo, we achieved a 70% vaccination rate, and I appreciate it", Sigit said on Thursday (16/12/2021). This achievement, Sigit said, cannot be separated from the hard work and cooperation between all stakeholders such as regional government, Armed Forces-Police, Attorney General Office, and all public elements. Therefore, this great vaccination achievement must be maintained and improved in the future. Sigit addressed that simultaneous vaccination in 34 provinces is conducted as an effort to achieve the target of 70% of Indonesians being vaccinated as expected by President Joko Widodo. According to him, all efforts and strategies are implemented to achieve such a target. "This becomes our target because the government and Mr President asked us in all regions, especially the one has not achieved 70% vaccination rate yet to be pushed by many strategies, so we hope that, by December ends, we have achieved 70% vaccination rate", Sigit said. He also mentioned that there are regions with a 90-100% vaccination rate. However, there are also regions with less than 50% vaccination rates. Therefore, the former Chief of Banten Regional Police reminded the Armed Forces-Police personnel and other stakeholders to be in synergy to conduct vaccination acceleration. Moreover, Sigit said, the government, through the Ministry of Health, stated that the new Covid-19 variant of Omicron had been confirmed in Indonesia. Besides vaccination acceleration, Sigit asked people to obey the Health Protocols to prevent the spread of Omicron variant and get vaccinated to achieve herd immunity. "We have to be more aware and obey the Health Protocols because Omicron variant is five more transmissible. Therefore, vaccination acceleration must be conducted, mainly in regions with less vaccinated people. This becomes our task to achieve and catch up and maintain the great achievement thanks to hard work of all stakeholders and the community", Sigit said. Furthermore, he wants good statistics such as positivity rate, reproduction, and hospital's bed occupancy rate to be maintained. Therefore, Sigit said, it will provide a positive impact on Indonesian economic growth. For now, according to Sigit, Indonesia's economic growth has started to recover. In the third quarter, Indonesia recorded 3.5 to 4.5% growth. Previously at 7%, the fourth quarter expected 4.5 to 5.5% growth. "This could be achieved if Covid-19 transmission could be maintained just like today", Sigit said. Sigit added that, in approaching Christmas and New Year, he emphasises people to obey Health Protocols to avoid Covid-19 cases surge. "We have to maintain, and this is our gambling to face the large events such as G20 presidency. Pushing economic growth upward and attracting investment could happen if we could control Covid-19 growth", Sigit explained. On occasion, Sigit also directly inspected other vaccination acceleration events across Indonesia through a virtual medium such as in Sumatra, Borneo, Sulawesi, Maluku, North Maluku, and West Papua. To the Chiefs of Regional and Departmental Police and Regional Leaders Communication Forums, Sigit emphasises the achievement of a vaccination target of 70%. With the remaining time, Sigit instructs everyone to keep the effort to achieve herd immunity. "We still have two weeks. The target of Mr President must be realised, depends on how dear colleagues achieve such target on the field, regarding your own regional conditions", Sigit concluded.
