Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Papuan People's Assembly (MRP) has issued a condemnation of the fatal shooting of a Smart Air pilot and co-pilot by an armed criminal group (KKB) in Boven Digoel, South Papua.
The attack, which occurred last Wednesday, is being labeled by regional leaders as a grave violation of human rights that undermines essential services in remote areas.
"From a human rights perspective, this is an unjustifiable act. We strongly condemn the KKB for targeting personnel who are here solely to serve the community," said MRP Second Deputy Chairman Max Ohee in Jayapura on Saturday (14/2/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
The MRP also denounced a string of recent violence, including the killing of a civilian water truck driver in Yahukimo and the fatal shooting of a military soldier in Mimika.
Ohee emphasized that pilots and security forces are vital for providing logistics to isolated regions and should never be viewed as combatants. He urged the public to remain calm while expressing full support for law enforcement’s ongoing efforts to secure the region and hold the perpetrators accountable.
