Inp.polri.go.id - Bengkayang. Bengkayang Sub-regional Police Chief Superintendent Syahirul Awab personally led a joint team to verify and extinguish land fires in Sungai Duri Village, Bengkayang Regency, on Wednesday (12/8/2026).

The joint task force responded to two hotspots detected by the Lancang Kuning and Sipongi apps. The fires burned approximately three hectares of peatland and brushwood near community plantations in Melapis Hamlet.

"Once we received information about the hotspots, we immediately went to the field to verify," Chief Syahirul said. "The main priority is ensuring no embers remain and conducting thorough cooling so the fire does not re-emerge."

He also distributed water pumps and protective masks to local Fire Care Community teams to support early response efforts.
