Inp.polri.go.id - Cilacap. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) confirmed on Tuesday (14/4/2026) that there are no indications of a "Godzilla" or super El Niño phenomenon hitting Indonesia in 2026.

"BMKG never released the term El Niño Godzilla; it is a popular term for extreme anomalies exceeding 2.0 degrees Celsius," said Teguh Wardoyo, the Head of Information Dissemination at the Tunggul Wulung Meteorological Station, as cited by antaranews.com.

Data suggests the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) will remain neutral through the first half of 2026. However, a 55% chance exists for a weak-to-moderate El Niño developing between June and August. This phase typically reduces rainfall across the archipelago, though the impact remains contingent on local sea surface temperatures.

Officials clarified that while conditions may become drier compared to recent years, the predicted intensity does not reach the catastrophic levels seen in 1997 or 2015. Public residents in drought-prone regions are encouraged to monitor official updates to manage water resources effectively as the dry season approaches.
