inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto, revealed records of drug trafficking by Mexican cartel networks in Indonesia.

According to him, Mexican drugs did enter Indonesia in 2024. However, the illicit goods did not originate from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) network led by Oseguera Cervantes, also known as El Mencho.

"In 2024, the BNN announced the dismantling of 27 drug networks, several of which were linked to Mexican cartels," said Suyudi in a written statement on Tuesday (2/23/2026).

Commission General Suyudi explained that the drugs entering Indonesia from Mexico originated from the Gregor Haas network. This network, he said, is affiliated with one of Mexico's major cartels, the Sinaloa.

He further explained that the types of drugs typically smuggled by this network are new drugs or NPS, as well as raw materials for making methamphetamine and fentanyl from Mexico and China. One network uncovered in 2024 was the Gregor Haas network, suspected of being part of the Sinaloa Cartel, based in Mexico.

This network, he said, used local networks through complex sea routes and international routes. Furthermore, the network employed various methods to evade authorities, including hiding drugs in the packaging of legitimate products like Chinese tea or baby diapers.

"Sea routes are often exploited, given that Indonesia is an archipelagic nation with many 'illegal loopholes' along its maritime borders. Drugs are also smuggled through official airports and ports using various disguises," he explained.
