inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) is anticipating the discovery of new types of narcotics, or new psychoactive substances (NPS), by launching an early warning system on the BNN website.
The Head of the BNN Laboratory Center, Supiyanto, explained that NPS discoveries will be notified through the website, allowing the public to immediately learn about developments in drug distribution and abuse.
"This is our anticipation, which is why we've created an early warning system related to NPS. We already have a website. So, every time a new NPS is discovered, we'll alert you and post it on our website so the public can see the developments in NPS in Indonesia," said l Supiyanto, Wednesday (2/18/2026).
He explained that NPS discoveries occur annually. NPS production in Indonesia can be carried out in clandestine labs, and there is smuggling from abroad to within the country.
"This means that every year, new NPS are discovered in Indonesia. They can be made in Indonesia through clandestine labs or through smuggling from abroad," continued Supiyanto.
Furthermore, data from the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has identified 100 of the 1,444 new types of narcotics in Indonesia.
"So, to be precise, as of today, there are 1,444 new types of narcotics, and we have identified 100 NPS. So, these new types are not the usual narcotics, like marijuana and methamphetamine," conclude Supiyanto.
