Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is investigating the alleged misuse of Grok AI on platform X to produce and distribute obscene content, including non-consensual manipulation of private photos, raising concerns over digital privacy and image rights.

“Initial findings indicate Grok AI lacks explicit safeguards to prevent the creation and spread of pornographic content using real personal images,” said Alexander Sabar, the Director General for Digital Space Supervision, on Wednesday (7/1/2026), as citedby antaranews.com.

The probe follows reports that AI-generated content has been used to alter and circulate sensitive images without consent, potentially violating Indonesia’s privacy and right-to-image protections. The Ministry is coordinating with electronic system operators to strengthen content moderation, prevent obscene deepfakes, and ensure rapid response mechanisms for complaints.

Alexander warned that platforms operating in Indonesia must comply with national regulations, noting that violations could lead to administrative sanctions or service access termination. It also reminded the public that, under the new Criminal Code effective January 2026, producing or distributing pornographic content may carry severe criminal penalties.
