Inp.polri.go.id - Karawang. Indonesia officially achieved rice self-sufficiency in 2025, President Prabowo Subianto announced on Wednesday (7/1/2026) during a national harvest event in Karawang, West Java, marking a major milestone in food security policy.
“Today, I declare that Indonesia has achieved food self-sufficiency in 2025 and now stands on its own feet,” he said during the ceremony, as reported by antaranews.com.
The announcement was delivered before farmers, agricultural workers, cabinet ministers, regional leaders, and executives of state-owned enterprises, with Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan and Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman in attendance. The declaration was symbolized through a traditional rice mortar ritual.
President Prabowo said the achievement resulted from sustained policy coordination, farmer productivity, and government support to reduce reliance on imports.
He added that the government is now preparing to reach corn self-sufficiency in the near term, which would allow feed prices to decline, support livestock farmers, and enable further reductions in fertilizer costs
