Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Trade Budi Santoso clarified on Wednesday (18/2/2026) that the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program is not responsible for rising broiler chicken prices in traditional markets.
Speaking at the Ministry of Trade office in Jakarta, the Minister explained that the program creates a predictable demand cycle, allowing producers to scale operations linearly. This consistency, he argued, actually prevents the sharp price fluctuations typically caused by erratic market demand.
"In the past, prices fluctuated because demand was inconsistent. Now, with a steady demand curve, production follows suit, leading to more stable pricing," Minister Santoso said, as cited by antaranews.com.
Following discussions with MSMEs and poultry producers, the Minister noted that businesses welcome the program as it provides the certainty needed to increase consistent output.
Government data as of 13 February 2026 showed stable commodity prices, with chicken at Rp 40,259 per kilogram and eggs at Rp 30,570. The Ministry will continue intensive monitoring to maintain supply stability ahead of the fasting month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr peak season.
