The Damai Cartenz-2024 Operation tightened airport security in 9 regions across Papua following two separate shootings of  civilian aircraft 2 days after the simultaneous elections on 14 February 2024. The Chief of Damai Cartenz-2024 Operation, Senior Superintendent  Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, said that the preliminary suspicion was that the shooting incidents, allegedly carried out by the armed criminal groups (KKB), are related to the 2024 Legislative Elections . "The Asian One Air plane was attempting to land at Milawak Beoga Airport and was shot at from the right side of the plane, while the Wings Air plane was shot at around the Kali Brasa area at the end of Dekai Yahukimo Airport," he explained. The Head of the Public Relations Unit of the  Damai Cartenz-2024 Operation, Superintendent Dr. Bayu Suseno, said that the task force is sweeping and pursuing the KKB responsible for the aircraft shootings. "We have involved the security Forces, the military and the police, which are part of the Damai Cartenz-2024 Task Force, to enhance security by increasing the perimeter around the airports in 9 operational regions," he said.
