Inp.polri.go.id - Nabire. The Damai Cartenz Task Force has deployed a joint team to hunt 19 inmates who escaped from Nabire Prison in Central Papua after a violent attack on prison guards at around 11 am on Monday (2/6/2025)
“Our team, along with Central Papua Regional Police and relevant agencies, is conducting an intensive manhunt. All escapees will be dealt with firmly in accordance with procedure,” said Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, the Head of Damai Cartenz Task Force, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The fugitives include 11 men allegedly affiliated with the West Papua Armed Criminal Group (KKB). The escape began when one inmate attacked officers with a machete, injuring three.
Authorities have reinforced security across the region and urged residents to remain calm and report sightings. The KKB-linked escapees include Yotenus Wonda, Alison Wonda, and Tandangan Kogoya from Puncak Jaya; Alenus Tabuni and others from Puncak and Paniai.
The remaining eight escapees have no known KKB ties.
