inp.polri.go.id - Medan. Maruli Siahaan, a member of Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), invited all elements of society to raise the Red and White flag to celebrate the 81st anniversary of Indonesian independence as a form of gratitude for Indonesia's independence.
"We ask all residents to raise the Red and White flag in their residential areas in August 2026 to commemorate the 81st anniversary of Indonesian independence," said Maruli in Medan on Friday (8/7/2026).
Maruli said that raising the Red and White flag is a form of gratitude for independence, respect for the heroes, and strengthening the spirit of unity.
He further stated that 81 years of independence prove that all people of all ethnicities, races, and religions are not divided and are growing stronger.
"Therefore, in this free country, all people are free to carry out their daily activities within the existing rules," he said.
It is hoped that the celebration of independence day will also be carried out in public places, schools, and other public spaces, with the Red and White flag flying as the spirit of building a progressive, sovereign, and prosperous Indonesia.
Furthermore, as part of the celebration of independence, the government will continue to instill the values of Pancasila as an important foundation for building national resilience, especially for the younger generation, the nation's successors.
He hopes that the younger generation will not only understand but also internalize and practice the values of Pancasila in their daily lives.
Previously, the government announced that it would hold a People's Party at the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta on August 17, 2026, as part of a series of events commemorating the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence.
Vice Minister of State Secretary Juri Ardiantoro stated that the People's Party will last all day, from morning to night, with various entertainment, competitions, and free food distribution.
