Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has assured the public that drug users who voluntarily report themselves for rehabilitation will not face prosecution.
“Many users want to get clean but tell us, ‘We’re afraid of being arrested,’” BNN Chief Commissioner General Marthinus Hukom said on Thursday (8/5/2025)
Hukom emphasized that current narcotics law mandates rehabilitation, not punishment, for users who come forward voluntarily. He added that fear of legal consequences and social stigma often prevents users from seeking help.
To address this, he urged families and communities to support those battling addiction.
“Don’t hesitate to report loved ones. They’ll receive free rehabilitation services,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
BNN operates six rehab centers across Indonesia, including a major facility in Lido, Bogor, that can treat up to 500 people daily. Around 15,000 drug useres undergo BNN-run rehab programs each year.
