Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A riot at the Muara Beliti Narcotics Prison in South Sumatra erupted Thursday morning (8/5/2025) after inmates resisted a raid for mobile phones and drugs, Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto confirmed on Thursday (8/5/2025).
“This was a preventive and progressive step. Our teams are actively conducting raids for phones and narcotics,” he stated. “Inmates who resist such operations will face consequences.”
The unrest began around 9 am local time. and was brought under control by late morning with help from the police and military.
“By 11.45 am., the situation had become stable,” said Minister Agus, affirming that drug- and phone-free prisons are a non-negotiable policy.
The minister reiterated a zero-tolerance stance, confirming that 548 drug-linked inmates have been transferred to maximum-security Nusakambangan. He also suspended 77 officers and is pursuing criminal charges against two staff members, according to antaranews.com.
