Inp.polri.go.id - Samarinda. The East Kalimantan Regional Police handled 34 forest and land fire cases throughout August 2026, designating nine individuals as criminal suspects across cases impacting 456.19 hectares of burned land.

Out of the total cases managed across various regencies and cities, 10 have advanced to formal investigation, while 24 remain under preliminary inquiry. Kutai Kartanegara Sub-regional Police and Paser Sub-regional Police handled eight cases each, leading regional law enforcement efforts alongside Samarinda, Berau, North Penajam Paser, and other sub-regional police units.

"This law enforcement action is a concrete effort to protect the public from health, environmental, social, and economic impacts," said East Kalimantan Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Tedy Sopandi on Tuesday (1/9/2026).

Police continue enforcing strict penalties while conducting joint patrols, warning corporations and landowners that burning land is a punishable offense.
