inp.polri.go.id - East Lombok. Rescue efforts for JDSP (27), a climber from Brazil who reportedly fell on the Cemara Nunggal cliff, on the route to the peak of Mount Rinjani, are still ongoing.

This operation involved a joint SAR team from the Mount Rinjani National Park Office (BTNGR), members of East Lombok Sub-regional Police and the SAR Team of Company 3 of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Police Mobile Brigade unit, the military, BPBD, Fire Department, and volunteers.

The search operation began on Saturday (6/21/2025) where the joint rescue team faced dangerous challenges such as steep terrain and vertical contours.

Initial evacuation efforts were carried out by installing a 300-meter rope, but the victim who continued to sink into the depths could not be reached.

One of the team members even had to spend the night at an altitude of 200 meters using the flying camp technique to guard the evacuation point.

"Until today, the joint team is still making maximum efforts to rescue the victim," said Head of Public Relations of the NTB Police, Senior Superintendent Mohammad Kholid, when confirmed in Mataram on Tuesday (6/24/2025).

In the morning, efforts were continued using a thermal drone to identify the victim's position. The search operation effort shows a result as the team found the victim stuck in a cliff wall at a depth of around 500 meters, but without any visible movement.

Unfortunately, thick fog and wet conditions due to rain hampered visibility and increased the risk. For the safety of personnel, the team decided to temporarily retreat to a safe position while waiting for a better weather window.

"This humanitarian mission is not easy. Cross-agency coordination is vital in extreme operations like this. The support and prayers of the community are very important for the success and safety of the team in the field," concluded Kholid.

Although the condition of the victims is still uncertain, rescue efforts will continue as long as safety factors allow. The NTB Regional Police appreciate the courage and professionalism of the joint SAR team members on duty in the field.
