inp.polri.go.id - Riau. Riau Regional Police held a press conference relating to the case of Land Seller for Tesso Nilo National Park (TNTN) Forest Area held at the Riau Regional Police Media Center Building on Monday (6/23/2025).
The press conference was led by the Riau Regional Police, Inspector General Herry Heryawan led by key police officials.
“We are here not only as the law enforcers, but also as the adopted parents for the elephants at Tesso Nilo National Park,” says Herry.
Herry emphasized his party's commitment to prosecute perpetrators of conservation forest destruction while exposing criminal schemes that abuse customary status for personal gain.
A man with the initials JS, who claims to be "Batin Adat", is suspected of issuing more than 200 fake grant letters in the TNTN area, with a selling value of IDR 5 million to IDR 10 million per letter.
Not only that, the land that was sold illegally covered hundreds of hectares, including to another suspect with the initials DY, who is now in the process of being handed over to the prosecutor's office.
“I am here representing the left behind elephants who can’t speak for this injustice. They can’t, but I can,” calls Herry.
Meanwhile, the Specific Criminal Investigation Director, Senior Superintendent Ade Kuncoro Ridwan explains that the sold conservation areas were to be used for illegal palm oil plantations. This violates the norm and the laws as conservation areas should be home to rare animals such as the Sumatran elephant.
The police have now named one suspect in this forest encroachment case, and it is possible that the number will increase.
All of this is done in the spirit of sustainable law enforcement carried out by the Riau Regional Police Chief through the concept of "Green Policing" law enforcement that not only punishes, but also restores and educates.
