Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono on Tuesday, called for reforms to the United Nations and its Security Council to remain relevant amid rising global challenges. He delivered the statement during an open debate chaired by China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New York.

“The UN must adapt to today’s realities. It was founded in the post–World War II era, but the world has changed significantly,” Sugiono said in a video message, as reported by antaranews.com on Wednesday (27/5/2026) 

He highlighted limited representation of Global South countries and the frequent use of veto powers as obstacles to resolving conflicts.
