inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said that France is one of Indonesia's main partners in modernizing the main defense weapons system (alutsista).

President Prabowo, while delivering a joint statement with French President Emmanuel Macron, explained that Indonesia and France are currently working together in joint production and technology transfer of several strategic defense equipment.

"We certainly already have an Indonesia-France defense cooperation agreement. France is one of Indonesia's main partners in modernizing defense equipment, including in the development of the defense industry through joint production and technology transfer," said President Prabowo at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (2/28/2025).

In the same statement, President Prabowo then emphasized the commitment of the two countries to continue defense cooperation, including improving human resources for the defense sector.

Defense cooperation between Indonesia and France has become increasingly close, including when President Prabowo served as Minister of Defense in the 2019–2024 period.

During that period, Indonesia officially purchased 42 Rafale fighter jets made by the French company, Dassault Aviation, and also announced the purchase of two Scorpene submarines made by Naval Group, also a French company.
