inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Vice Chairperson of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Evita Nursanty emphasized the DPR's commitment to encourage sustainable tourism development in Southwest Papua, especially in the Raja Ampat National Tourism Destination Area (KDP).

She said that the DPR is currently discussing the Draft Law (RUU) on Tourism. The bill is intended to increase national tourism and encourage economic growth at the central and regional levels.

"Hopefully this bill can become a tourism law that can increase national tourism, improve the national and regional economy, absorb labor, and provide welfare for the community," said Evita, quoted by Antaranews in Jakarta, Wednesday (5/28/2025).

According to her, the determination of Raja Ampat as a National Tourism Destination Area as stated in Presidential Regulation Number 87 of 2024 concerning the Raja Ampat National Tourism Destination Master Plan for 2024–2044, is a strategic step in integrated and sustainable tourism development.

However, she also voiced concerns over information about mining activities in the Raja Ampat area that have the potential to have a negative impact on environmental sustainability and the growth of the tourism sector. For that reason, incoming investment must meet environmentally friendly requirements.

"The natural wealth of Southwest Papua is an invaluable asset that we must protect for future generations," she said.

She also invited all parties to unite in building an advanced and sustainable Southwest Papua, by integrating the tourism, MSMEs, and industrial sectors in one grand vision of regional development.

"With the spirit of mutual cooperation and our love for the land of Papua, we can make Raja Ampat and all of Southwest Papua a beacon of world tourism based on local wisdom," she concluded.
