Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. State airways company Garuda Indonesia CEO Lieutenant General (ret) Glenny H. Kairupan has postponed the acquisition of three new aircraft, stressing that the airline must first repair and stabilize its existing fleet to restore operational efficiency.

“We signed an MoU for four aircraft, but only one has received a down payment. The other three are postponed because our priority is fixing the current fleet,” he said on Friday (14/11/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.

The decision was a strategic shift as Garuda focuses on core operational recovery under the government’s rescue program and funding support from state sovereign fund Danantara, which committed Rp23.67 trillion.

Despite the sizable capital injection, Glenny, a former Army pilot, is adopting a cautious approach, noting that unresolved operational issues continue to weigh on the airline’s finances. Full recovery is expected to take around two years before Garuda can return to profitability.

Deputy CEO Thomas Sugiarto Oentoro said all expansion plans are currently being recalculated. With the appointment of Neil Raymond Mills as Director of Transformation, fleet and route evaluations will be conducted more rigorously. Thomas emphasized that the orders are postponed, not cancelled.
