Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government has mobilized the Indonesian MIlitary (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (INP)i personnel to anticipate potential disasters caused by extreme weather during the Christmas and New Year holidays, according to Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan.

“There are critical points prone to extreme weather. The government is monitoring these areas to ensure smooth, safe, and peaceful celebrations,” he said during a visit to Gereja Immanuel in Jakarta on Tuesday (24/12/2024).

Key areas under close watch include South Sulawesi, East Java, West Java (especially Sukabumi), and volcanic regions such as Mount Semeru in East Java, Mount Lewotobi in East Nusa Tenggara, and Mount Ibu in North Maluku.

A total of 1,854 integrated posts, including disaster response teams comprising TNI INP, the regional disaster management agencies (BNPB), and local administrations, have been deployed nationwide.

Minister Budi Gunawan  noted that peak public mobility is expected on 25  and 26 December 2024.

“We have inspected churches and transportation hubs to ensure that Christmas Mass and holiday travel proceed safely and peacefully,” he added, as reported by antaranews.com.
