Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Presidential Chief of Staff Muhammad Qodari announced on Wednesday (22/4/2026) that the Indonesian government aims to commence construction on five Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) plants by June 2026. 

These projects are part of a broader national strategy to establish 30 PSEL locations across 61 regencies and cities to address urban waste management.

"Five locations are targeted for groundbreaking in June 2026, namely Bekasi, Yogyakarta, Greater Bogor, and Greater Denpasar," Qodari explained during a press conference in Jakarta, as reported by antaranews.com. He added that a fifth project in Greater Bandung is being developed in collaboration with Japan.

The initiative seeks to process over 33,000 tons of waste daily while facilitating a transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. 

Minister of Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan previously emphasized the urgency of the project, noting that the central government is prepared to take over implementation if regional progress stalls, following direct orders from President Prabowo Subianto.
