Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf announced on Wednesday (22/4/2026) that the government is evaluating a plan to expand the National Health Insurance (JKN) subsidy quota to 120 million recipients.
Currently, the "PBI JKN" segment covers 96.8 million people, but socioeconomic data indicates that 120 million citizens fall within the eligible criteria.
"This is one of the schemes we are preparing. Discussions have begun, though not yet comprehensively," Minister Yusuf said in Jakarta, as cited by antaranews.com. He explained that the expansion aims to eliminate "exclusion errors," ensuring that vulnerable citizens in the bottom four socioeconomic deciles are not left without protection.
The Ministry of Social Affairs will coordinate with the Ministry of Health, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), and state health insurance agency BPJS Kesehatan to finalize the proposal. The initiative was a follow up of recent discussions with the House of Representatives (DPR RI) to ensure comprehensive health coverage for the poor and near-poor across Indonesia.
