Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is providing consular support to 87 Indonesian students at Harvard University following a U.S. policy barring the school from enrolling foreign students.
“Our representatives in the U.S. are ready to assist Indonesian students affected by this policy,” said the foreign ministry spokesperson, Rolliansyah Soemirat, on Tuesday (27/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security revoked Harvard’s certification under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) on 22 May 2025, citing repeated noncompliance. The move prevents new foreign student admissions and requires current students to transfer or risk losing legal status.
“This situation has created uncertainty. We urge students to remain calm while awaiting legal proceedings initiated by Harvard,” Roelliansyah added.
He said the Indonesian government has conveyed concern to the U.S., emphasizing the need for a fair solution.
The Indonesian Embassy is in active communication with the students amid the ongoing issue. Harvard is reportedly preparing legal action to challenge the federal decision.
